Redcliffe Musical Theatre (RMT) brings Charlotte’s Web to the Redcliffe Peninsula next month in the form of a family friendly children’s play.
The Children’s Literature Association named this “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” and Joseph Robinette, working with the advice of E.B. White, has created a play that captures this work in a thrilling theatrical performance.
All the enchanting characters are here: Wilber, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, the girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; the Zukerman family; the Arables and most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.”
Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign with the “miracle” of her web in which she writes, “some pig.” It’s the beginning of a victorious campaign which ultimately ends with the now- safe Wilber doing what is most important to Charlotte.
Redcliffe Musical Theatre Inc presents Charlotte’s Web live on stage at THEATRE 102, 102 Anzac Avenue on February 16 at 7pm, February 17 at 2pm and 7pm and February 18 at 6pm.

'I have always been passionate about encouraging theatrical performance within young people, and owe this to the change that theatre and drama made in my own life- giving me confidence and resilience. The story of Charlotte's Web is one which encourages this same strength and resilience within its audience- and given that it was such an influential part of my own childhood, I felt that I would be able to encourage performers in this production to identify with the themes of growth and friendship, in order to portray the magical story told to us by E.B. White all those years ago. With this in mind, my vision of the production is true to the spirit of White's story- not a show which is overly fantastical or technical, but one which inspires the audience with a story of diversity and friendship.' |
