SHIRLEY VALENTINE
By Willy Russell
Why do we get all this life if we don't ever use it?
Shirley Bradshaw often finds herself alone and talking to the wall in her kitchen. But something's about
to change! While preparing her husband's evening meal of egg and chips, she wonders if she has the
courage to escape her dull married life. Can she follow her dreams and take an unexpected and exciting
trip to Greece in search of her fearless former self, Shirley Valentine? Maybe there she will fulfill her
dream of ‘sitting by the sea, drinking wine in a country where the grape is grown’.
Willy Russell's comic monologue, Shirley Valentine, opened at Liverpool's Everyman Theatre in 1986 to
rave reviews and awards and was later made into an Oscar nominated film.
After an overwhelmingly positive response to seasons at the Harp of Erin Theatre, Wollombi and The
Royal Exchange Theatre, Newcastle and Cowra - Bare Productions are proud to be bringing 'Shirley' to Redcliffe for 4
shows only!
